The ND Computer Science programme is designed to produce middle-level manpower computer professionals, capable of applying the use of computer systems to various areas of Information and Communication Technology. The programme covers software development, basics of working with hardware, networks, and computer systems; web development, data analytics amongst other areas of computing.
Diplomates of this programme should be able to:
- Manage computer systems
- Use various Computer packages
- Maintain and manage computer hardware
- Create and manage web applications
- Use various programming languages: Python, Java, Visual BASIC, C Programming
- Set up and manage computer networks
Entry requirements
Five credit level passes in GCE “O” level, Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), NECO and NABTEB at not more than two sittings. The five subjects must include:
English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other subjects chosen from the following:
Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science.
A Pass in Physics is compulsory for Computer Science.
CAREER PROSPECTS
The computer science field includes a wide array of interesting and diverse occupations — from software developers to database administrators to web developers. In addition to the more traditional opportunities within the field, another expanding area is the world of artificial intelligence.
Computer scientists can be found in many different working environments, including “academia, research, industry, government, private, and business organizations.” This variety provides significant flexibility when it comes to finding the right fit for where and how a person prefers to work.
