The Provost

The current Provost of Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Victoria Island, Lagos, Dr. Chuks Paul Onuoha assumed office in July, 2019.

Dr. Onuoha a Doctor of Marine Sciences/Fisheries, obtained his First School Leaving Certificate at St Brigids Primary School, Nnarambia Ahiara; after which he proceeded to Boys Secondary School Ekwerazu Mbaise, in Imo State, where he obtained his West African School Certificate in flying colours. Subsequently, he gained admission into Imo State University Okigwe, where he graduated in 1987 with B.Sc. (Hons.) in Zoology. He later proceeded for his postgraduate studies at University of Jos, where he obtained his Master of Science (M.Sc) in Applied Hydrobiology and Fisheries in 1992. In a quest for further knowledge and achievements, this icon of struggle was crowned with a Ph.D. in Marine sciences (Marine Biology) in 2009, after passing through the prestigious University of Ghent-Belgium and University of Lagos.

He joined the services of the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Victoria Island, Lagos in July 1994 as Lecturer III and rose through the ranks to the position of Chief Lecturer in 2014.

Before his appointment as the Provost of the College, he was the Deputy Provost Academics from 2010 to 2011. After a sterling performance as Deputy Provost Academics, he was elevated to the position of Deputy Provost Administration in 2011, a position he held till June 2019 when he was appointed Acting Provost of the college and subsequently, the Provost.

Dr. Onuoha is a distinguished, Fisheries and Marine scientist with a track record of national and international experience in the academia, research and industry. He is widely travelled with national and international network. In 2003, he earned Spanish International Cooperation fellowship to travel to Centre for Marine Resource, Vigo Spain for international programme on Fisheries Management. He later proceeded to University of Ghent, Ghent Belgium on another international fellowship for part of his doctoral research. In 2008, he got another fellowship from the Netherlands government (NUFFIC fellowship) to proceed to Wageningen International, Wageningen University for another international programme on Fisheries Management. Later the same year, he travelled to Harbour Branch Oceanographic institute-Florida Atlantic University, USA for further courseonMarinere-circulatoryAquacultureandHatcheryproduction.Heiswell published in both national and international journals. His background includes Lecturing, Research, Consultancy, Administration, Initiation and Execution of Aqua-cultural Projects, Offshore Operations, Fisheries and Marine Investigations, Marine Pollution Control and Management. He has consistent track record of trouble shooting ability, initiating solutions and completing projects to specifications within specified period.

He also assumes mentorship role with very sound inter-personal relationships. In addition to the management positions held in the college over the years, he was also Project Manager and Chairman, Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) among others. He is a member of several professional bodies both locally and internationally.

Dr. Chuks Onuoha is a detribalized leader who came as an Apostle to work and transform the College into an enviable standard. Irrespective of his numerous academic and administrative engagements, he enjoys cooking, travelling, reading, listening to music and helping the needy. He is married with children.
